Good idea, but I cannot attend.

Harry Allen is a 39-year-old artist, and has been playing the saxophone professionally for over 20 years. He was the winner of the 2006 New York City Nightlife “Best Jazz Combo” award. He has played all over the world with most of the great players of the day. His style is straight ahead jazz improvisation in the style of legends like Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, Ben Webster, Zoot Sims and Stan Getz. He will lead the Master Class, demonstrate different melodies of playing the saxophone and giving tips on mouth pieced ligature/horn, set-ups, different styles of improvisation for beginners as well as advanced amateur saxophonists.

Ray McMahon is the CEO/Producer of the exciting new jazz label and music Web site www.mcmahonjazzmedicine.com. He is a 68-year-old tenor saxophone player with only 8 years of playing the saxophone. He has attended 3 week-long jazz camps with the great teacher Jamey Abersold in Louisville Ky, and will pass on some tips on how he learned to play using the Abersold music/play along teaching books written by James Abersold. Each book has play along CDs allowing the student to learn and at the same time play along with great jazz combos.

The class will run 4 hours, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday April 8, in New York City prior to the Harry Allen jazz concert that evening.

If you are learning to play the saxophone (all types) or are trying to learn the art of improvisation and have never actually played with a great player, this is the class of a lifetime. The entire session will be video- taped as a personal DVD of your playing with the class, and Harry Allen will be part of the class cost. All you have to do is bring your horn along with some music you are working on, and Harry and Ray will provide the rest. As an amateur player, Ray for one, knows how important it is to learn from the “masters,” so this is your chance to spend 4 hours learning and playing along with the best tenor saxophone player of the day, Harry Allen.
